Cantil is a large venomous pit viper that lives in Mexico and Central America. There are four known subspecies of this snake. It is a venomous pit viper, which is very feared by human beings.

Description

Length: Cantils are heavy-bodied pit vipers with the same general body structure as Copperhead. Their average length is about 60 centimeters (24 inches), their heads are triangular, their heads are wide, and their small eyes have vertical pupils.

Coloration: Most of the cantils are brown or black with black or dark brown banding, often fringed with cream or white scales; juveniles are prominently banded with yellow or bright green tail tips.

Behavior

This pit viper has a reputation for being bad-tempered and extremely dangerous, and it's probably not a very good reputation. They are usually shy by nature, and if threatened, their first reaction is to resort to camouflage. Failing that, they use threatening behavior to avoid potential predators. A tightly coiled animal will lift the last few inches of its tail, which is usually bright yellow or green in childhood and pale yellow or green in adulthood, and then the animal will swing its tail to produce a loud flapping sound in or around its coils.

Habitat

Usually, this pit viper prefer seasonally dry forest,  tropical scrub forest, tropical deciduous forest, savanna, on the borders of rivers and streams, grasslands, cultivated lands.

Diet

This pit viper feeds on amphibians,mammals,  birds, reptiles.
